Fiber optical attenuator or Optical attenuator is a passive optical device that reduces the power level of an optical signal.
Optical attenuator is used to attenuate the input optical power and avoid the distortion caused by the optical receiver due to the strong input optical power. The bulkhead fixed optical attenuator can be plugged into the receiver receptacle.
The plug-in fixed optical attenuator provides a connector plug (male) and an adapter socket (female) to connect between fiber patch cord and fiber adapter. The inline attenuator resembles a patch cord and is typically used between the patch panel and the receiver.
